The National Famine Museum – Strokestown Park, Roscommon Located on an historic, 300 acre estate, the National Famine Museum Strokestown Park draws on an archive of images and original documents (including letters written by tenants on the Strokestown Estate at the time of the famine) that tells the history, politics, circumstances and stories of hunger, eviction and migration during the Great Irish Famine of the 1840s.Visitors can also visit both the Six Acre Walled Garden and Strokestown Park House – an impressive, Georgian Palladian Mansion, with original furnishings and interesting insights into the Pakenham Mahon family who lived at Strokestown from the mid-1600s to the late 1970s. Corlea Trackway, Longford Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre interprets an Iron Age bog road that was built in the year 148 B.C. across the bog lands of Longford, close to the River Shannon. The oak road is the largest of its kind to have been uncovered in Europe and was excavated by Professor Barry Raftery of University College Dublin. Inside the interpretive centre, an eighteen-metre stretch of the preserved trackway is on permanent display in a hall specially designed to preserve the ancient wooden structure. Killaloe River Cruise, Clare Sit back, relax and enjoy a sightseeing cruise on the River Shannon and Lough Derg from the Heritage town of Killaloe in County Clare, nestled in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands. A commentary is provided as you gently cruise along the calm sheltered waters of Ireland’s finest waterway. Your guests can relax and unwind with an Irish Coffee, bar services on board. There is an open top deck with seating for all passengers, where they can truly appreciate the magnificent scenery. The lower deck is fully enclosed to ensure a comfortable cruise.
