DCU Expo 2023 Final Year Projects
54 84. Hand Read – Translation of Hand Sign Language The project is aMachine Learning sign language detector. The program follows a hand’s sign language movements using the OpenCV framework, analyzes the footage, and transcribes the output. The concept’s goal is to assist sign language users in general, with lecturers or professors who use sign languages being a good example of potential beneficiaries. They can utilize the program to submit lectures and have subtitles generated by the software. The transcription is created after the user uploads their handmovements, and the output is the text generated. The files produced are VTT files. The software will be run via a small flask server that showcases the video and subtitles together. An Investigation into Potential Energy Savings with the Introduction of Renewable Energy Technologies such as PV Solar Panels at University Campuses This project investigates the environmental and economic benefits of implementing a PV solar panel system to a university campus. Amodel was developed for the project simulating one of the existing buildings at DCU. This model enabled the user to find an optimal system that would enable the university to become more energy efficient as well as teaching students the importance of renewable energy technologies. This study also aims to highlight the importance of sustainability and renewable technologies to the future generations. Entity Relations in Bevy A popular open source ECS engine is Bevy. Bevy is a game engine written in Rust and is the secondmost starred game engine on github. It features an ergonomic declarative API reminiscent of structural typing, row polymorphismand SQL via a type level DSL. ECS is a bleeding edge technology and in its current state certain things are difficult to express with pure ECS. One of the desired additions for Bevy that could address this is Entity Relations. Entity Relations would add the capability of expressing relations in amanner similar to Prolog.
