DCU Expo 2023 Final Year Projects
59 99. Development and testing of an Archimedes spiral Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine (HAWT) The goal of this project was to design and develop a horizontal axis wind turbine based on an Archimedes spiral, following this the wind turbine’s efficiency was tested in a wind tunnel at various speeds. The wind turbine was designed on Solidworks and 3D printed, its performances in the wind tunnel were then compared to other types of wind turbines in my report. Class Biomedical Engineering (Year 4) Project Area 3-DModelling, Device Design, Electric Generation, Renewable Energy Technology Project Technology Solidworks Student Name(s) Ultán Boyle Email ultan.boyle2@mail.dcu.ie Supervisor Dr CornéMuilwijk 100. 3DBioprinting of Collagen Bioinks This project analyzed various bio-ink solutions used within articular cartilage tissue engineering such as collagen, sodiumalginate, and hyaluronic acid. The aimof the project was to detect an optimal bio-ink for 3D bioprinting. This was analyzed through bio-ink tests completed on the solutions. A bio-ink consisting of SodiumAlginate and Collagen was quantitatively found to be an optimal solution for 3D bioprinting. The optimal solution was then improved with an additional material Chondroitin Sulfate with the objective of creating amore biomimetic environment as such native articular cartilage, an optimal 3D printing concentration of Chondroitin Sulfate was also analyzed. Class Biomedical Engineering (Year 5) Project Area Biomedical Engineering, Tissue Engineering, Materials Testing Project Technology Excel/VB, R Student Name(s) Sophia O’Donnell Email sophia.odonnell49@mail.dcu.ie Supervisor Dr Tanya Levingstone 101. StoreB This application, StoreB, is an Androidmobile application that allows users to speed up their shopping, save money and provide information concerning store products. The purpose of StoreB is to help users save money and time by providing themwith quick and easily accessible information about items they have scanned. The application allows users to create a shopping list beforehand and a budget tracker. The option to create a group shopping basket and budget will also be available. There is also a recommendation system that recommends products based on what the user has in their basket.
