CalciumPhosphate Coatings for Biomedical Applications Magnesium has been subject to extensive research in the field of bone implants in recent years due to its mechanical properties which are similar to that of native bone. Calciumphosphate coatings are typically paired with magnesium scaffolds to control the corrosion rate of the metallic substrate as well as to enhance the biocompatibility of the implant. Octacalciumphosphate (OCP) is a desirable phase of calciumphosphate for coated implants due to its similarities to the naturally occurring hydroxyapatite. The adhesive strength of the coating to the substrate remains a challenge. This project investigated how heat treatment of OCP altered its morphology, physiochemical and adhesive properties with a stainless- steel substrate. Class Biomedical Engineering (Year 5) Project Area Biomedical Engineering, Materials Testing Project Technology Solidworks Student Name(s) David Toft Email david.toft2@mail.dcu.ie Supervisor Dr Tanya Levingstone 187. Build andUse an Inflation Rig for Membranes The purpose of this project was to build an inflation rig to test membranes, use this rig to test material properties, and use the results obtained to construct amathematical model of the membrane. The inflation rig is composed of an air chamber pressurized with air and a hole to allow for expansion but is enclosed on all other sides. The results obtained from these experiments were then compared to results found in the literature using different experimental methods. The material chosen for inflation and testing is neoprene.
