49 57. StudentPerks StudentPerks is a Django-based web app designed to serve as the central hub for third-level students across Ireland to access both in-store and online student discounts in the formof QR and randomly generated codes. The platformprovides third-level students with the opportunity to quickly and easily use discounts or special rewards permitted by businesses to reduce the growing costs of living. Our slogan is “By the students, for the students” which emphasises exactly why we set out on this project, as we have first-hand experience of the struggles faced to keep up with the cost of living crisis. The web app involves concepts from user interface design and web design to enhance the user experience and increase the overall quality. Spectrometer Instrumentation Development Amicro spectrometer is an instrument capable of measuring the individual wave lengths of light that shines into its sensor. This project’s objective was to design, manufacture and assemble a system to house amicro spectrometer. The systemmimics a lab grade portable spectrometer, which is comparable and has improved features at amuch lower cost. A spectrometer has a vast range of use cases. This project focused on the capability of measuring the absorbance of a liquid by taking a blank reading and comparing it against a “contaminated” liquid. The difference of wavelength absorbed in the readings then indicates howmuch of a substance is in the liquid. An example use case would be measuring the concentrate of phosphate in a body of water which could indicate the rate of algae growth.
