DCU Expo 2024 - Final Year Projects
61 93. DCU Loop Chatbot Our project introduces a chatbot integration for DCU’s online learning platform, enriching the academic experience by providing personalised access to educational resources. With a focus on prompt engineering, the chatbot is adept at recognising student intents, offering tailored interactions based on individual courses and academic requirements. This application, supported by a user-friendly UI web application, utilises a comprehensive database to streamline the navigation of educational materials and tasks, thereby providing a seamless user experience and an enhanced learning environment. An IoT Framework for Solar-Powered Energy Optimisation with Smart Tariffs This project delved into optimising energy consumption within Smart Homes. It enables users to input their import and export data from energy suppliers, displaying energy usage statistics graphically on a website. Utilising advanced algorithms, the website then calculates the optimal smart tariff price plan based on the Smart Home’s import and export data. Through this innovative approach, the project aims to empower users tomake informed decisions about their energy consumption, ultimately contributing tomore efficient and sustainable living. Handwriting Recognition Program Handwritten Character Recognition (HCR) is the process of digitising human handwritten character images. It is a difficult task for amachine because handwritten digits are not perfect and can be made with a variety of styles. In order to address this issue, I will create an HCR, which uses the image of a character to identify the character present in the image. In this project, I developed a Convolutional Neural Network model using the Tensorflow framework to recognise Handwritten characters.A CNN is a Deep Learning Algorithm that can take in an input image, assign learnable weights and biases to various objects in the image, and be able to distinguish one fromanother. It is used to analyse visual imagery.
