DCU Expo 2024 - Final Year Projects

79 147. Developing a Small-Scale Darrieus-Type Vertical AxisWind Turbine This project involved the research, development, and testing of a small-scale Darrieus-type vertical axis wind turbine. A prototype was developed using Solidworks, and each element of the turbine was 3D printed using suitable materials. This prototype was tested inside a wind tunnel where various airfoil designs and pitches were investigated to identify which turbine was the most efficient using a compact electrical generator. The output from this would be collected, and usingMATLAB/Excel, the data was extracted and interpreted. Student Programme Mechanical andManufacturing Engineering (Year 5) Project Area 3-DModelling, Mechanical Design andManufacture, Renewable Energy Technology Project Technology Excel/VB, Matlab, Solidworks Student Name(s) Daniel Brown Email daniel.brown5@mail.dcu.ie Supervisor Dr CornéMuilwijk 148. GitDex This project, GitDex, provides a platform that centralises repositories across various git providers, notably GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket. Users and administrators have the ability to integrate unique repository providers and add project repositories, allowing them tomanage andmonitor all of their work at once, in one place. By offering a centralised hub, this project aims to reduce time that developers spend on managing andmonitoring repositories across multiple different providers through a secure web application that is accessible fromany location, allowing users to focus more on their actual development tasks and less on navigating through multiple providers. This project provides a solution tomeet the evolving demands of developers in a dynamic coding environment.
