DCU Expo 2024 - Final Year Projects

96 198. Decarbonisation of the Irish Energy System, the Role of Hydrogen Employing an energy systemmodeller, this project models Ireland’s pathway to decarbonisation by 2050, concentrating on the electricity, heating, and transport sectors. It meticulously analyses historical and predicted growth rates to establish forecasted final energy demand profiles and data. These profiles serve as a foundation for evaluating the required strategic capital investments to facilitate this transformative energy shift, ensuring alignment with Ireland’s ambitious sustainability targets. Convective PCR is the process of thermal cycling involving denaturing, annealing and extension of the sample. Lab-on-a-Disc platforms offer miniaturised and automated analysis, enablingmultiplexed assays and precise control over reaction conditions. Integrating these processes, the project creates a portable, user-friendly system for on-site pathogen detection and genetic analysis. This combination enhances the speed and efficiency of diagnostic processes, making it especially valuable for resource-limited settings and point-of-care applications. Student Programme Biomedical Engineering (Year 5) Project Area Biomedical Engineering, Circuit Modeling, FluidMechanics Project Technology Solidworks, Microfluidics Student Name(s) Samuel Black Email samuel.black6@mail.dcu.ie Supervisor Dr David Kinahan 200. Music House - AI Music Recommendation This project introduces Music House, a comprehensive ecosystem that integrates TuneFlow’s AI-driven music recommendations with an engaging social platform called InstaTune. TuneFlow offers personalised music suggestions, enhancing users’ experiences with personalised tracks and live music options, while InstaTune connects users through posts, likes, and follows, cultivating a lively music-loving community. Central to the platform is Music House, our central page that enriches the music community with blogs on concerts and new albums, keeping users informed about the latest information in the music industry.
